Summer 2024 events round-up – ICYMI!
Despite the team enjoying some well-earned holidays throughout the summer months, BTS was still out on the road at a variety of different events. We carried out hands-on demos, gave presentations, and joined roundtable discussions to name just a few.
At InstallerSHOW in June, Richard Jack joined the “Survey success made simple” roundtable panel, alongside peers from IMS heat Pumps, heatly, Hoare Lea, and geo. The main focus of the discussion was achieving accurate heat loss measurement to enable the correct sizing of heat pumps in the home.
Unless an installer has accurate, reliable data then any assumptions made regarding the performance of a building can be fraught with uncertainty. This can in turn lead to the incorrect heat pump being specified and for problems to continue for homeowners who do not see the cost-saving or comfort benefits they were expecting. If the adoption of heat pumps as a mainstream central heating technology is to accelerate to meet government targets, then these negative experiences must be reduced.
July took the team to London, where they joined the InnovateUK Retrofit Challenges Forum. The agenda discussed many key topics for this sector including retrofitting heritage buildings, alternative heating solutions and retrofit decision-making tools.
This is an area that the BTS products are ideally aligned to. From informing the retrofit of energy efficiency measures into older buildings, to understanding the exact U-values and airtightness to verify delivered outcomes, this must surely be an area of key investment to ensure retrofit is well considered and delivers upon the many promised benefits.
The forum event sought to link local authorities with innovative solutions suppliers. BTS were invited to deliver a snappy 5 minute pitch presentation which can be found linked below.
Also in July, BTS exhibited at WoodBUILD2024 in Swansea. This time, we took measurement kit with us and ran numerous hands-on demonstrations of the product range to the timber building supply chain. With timber construction being seen as an ever-important part of the solution to decarbonising our built environment, WoodBUILD offers an opportunity to meet with experts from across the forest industries and timber construction sectors.
As well as taking Build Test Solutions on the road, we hosted a workshop tour and demonstration session at our own site in Weedon Bec. Held in association with the AECB, we welcomed a mix of local architects, surveyors and energy assessors to explore the solutions on offer. The event also included a CPD session on building performance evaluation.
Although all the events we have been to recently have been unique, there has been one overriding concern throughout: we must do better with our existing housing stock as well as provide the very best in efficient new homes.
BTS’s measurement products are all designed to ensure measurements are used as a basis for better targeting retrofit measures and verifying buildings perform as intended. From a general overall view of how a building is performing, to pinpointing exactly where the weak spots in a home are, it is possible to remove the guesswork and provide real, measured results based on real-world situations rather than textbook theory and averages.
The slide decks below introduce many of these issues and how to begin to overcome them. To find out more about any of the topics covered in this blog, contact us for a chat.
